Welcome! We are so excited to share a little bit about ourselves and our breeding program with you.

Medicine Hills Ranch was first established in 2022 when we were looking for ways to become involved in a breeding program but failed to find a viable partnership. We were faced with the choice to strike out on our own or call it quits. Naively, we decided to give it a go. The learning curve has been intense, to say the least, and we are still very much a work in progress! The majority of our horses come from reining, cow horse, and ranch APHA and AQHA bloodlines but we have a good mix of performance proven pedigrees. Our ultimate goal is to produce good-minded and well-built horses with the mind and temperament to suit a wide variety of homes and disciplines, be it in a show pen, roping cows on the family ranch, or packing your child down a trail in the Rockies.

The vast majority of horses we are producing are APHA registered, with only the occasional AQHA registered horse. The reason for this is two fold. We felt we could make a larger difference breeding APHA horses because a lot of desired traits with respect to mind/trainability, conformation, and athleticism have been bred out of paints in favour of colour. The second, more practical, reason is there is a much larger number of AQHA breeders in our area and so we were looking to find a different corner of the market.

The colour genetics absolutely fascinate me and have been so fun to learn more about. Colour is definitely not the top of the list of what we are breeding for but it is a lovely bonus on well a bred horse.
